Theimportant points are injury prevention and airway protection.

.Be careful that the person is not injured by furniture corners, etc. during the attack.

.Do not forcibly hold down the person during a convulsion. (It may cause a fracture.)

.Do not let the infant bite things or put fingers or objects into the mouth. (Even if intended to prevent his/her biting the tongue, it may cause damage to the teeth, suffocation, etc., and there is a risk of biting the fingers.)

.Make the infant sleep on his or her side and loosen clothing.

.If the attending doctor has instructed that medication should be used during a convulsion or in order to prevent a convulsion, follow the instructions.

.When the convulsion subsides, make sure the person is responding or breathing. (There is a possibility of cardiac arrest.)

.Even if the symptoms are better, be sure to visit the primary care physician (pediatrician) the next day.
